The Regional Advocacy Director/Legislative Director is responsible for supporting the advancement and success of student-centered policy and legislation for one of the nation’s foremost education policy organizations. The Director serves as a boundaryless partner, collaborating with state policymakers, policy shapers, and advocates in a portfolio of states to achieve the organization’s policy goals of closing learning gaps, empowering families with opportunity, strengthening pathways to college and career, and reimagining learning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Support state leaders and local advocates in developing, enacting, improving, and protecting student-centered education policies. Conduct outreach to state legislative and executive branches and promote the organization’s education policy agenda within assigned states. Monitor and engage in State Legislative Sessions, State Board of Education meetings, and other governmental policy activities impacting the organization’s agenda. Develop annual and multi-year state advocacy action plans. Track legislation and executive actions, review policy proposals, and support policy implementation. Build partnerships with state policymakers and advocacy organizations to promote aligned policy solutions. Testify at legislative committee meetings and hearings, and represent the organization at other venues on relevant issues. Assist with advocacy communication strategies by providing facts and information for resources. Prepare briefing materials and talking points for state leaders, board members, and executives. Conduct policy briefings to educate policymakers and leaders on student-centered policies. Participate in organizing state and national convenings, philanthropic engagements, and support the National Summit on Education. Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Strong commitment to student-centered education policy advocacy Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills Public speaking ability before legislators and policymakers Deep understanding of political and legislative processes Knowledge of education policy and state politics Proven ability to develop and execute advocacy strategies Willingness to travel for meetings Success in partnering across teams and organizations to drive results Ability to thrive in ambiguity, manage relationships, and handle complex tasks Understanding of 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) activities management Requirements: 5+ years of professional experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Social Science, Political Science, Public Administration, or related field Experience in legislative or executive branch roles, including policy work, bill drafting, tracking, and analysis To Apply: Apply online by clicking the "Apply" button above.
