About Digital Dynamics Inc.
Digital Dynamics Inc. (DDI) designs and manufactures high-performance control systems and intelligent electronics for industrial automation, semiconductor, and mission-critical applications. As an employee-owned company, we pride ourselves on innovation, reliability, and a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
Position Summary
The
Failure Analysis (FA) Engineer II
is a hands-on technical role within the Quality Group, responsible for investigating field failures and manufacturing returns (RMAs), determining root cause, and collaborating across departments to implement corrective actions. This position plays a critical role in improving product reliability, reducing returns, and enhancing customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Perform detailed failure analysis on returned material (RMAs), production defects, and internal non-conformances. Use a variety of diagnostic tools and techniques such as X-ray, cross-sectioning, SEM, thermal imaging, and electrical testing to identify root causes. Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, and Supply Chain to drive resolution of systemic issues. Document analysis findings in clear, data-driven reports and present them to internal stakeholders and external customers as needed. Track and analyze failure trends; recommend and support design and process improvements to prevent recurrence. Ensure timely processing of RMA cases and maintain accurate records in the quality system. Support and improve the effectiveness of the corrective and preventive action (CAPA) process. Maintain lab tools and equipment; contribute to continuous improvement in FA methodologies.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field. 2–5 years of hands-on experience in failure analysis, quality engineering, or reliability engineering in an electronics manufacturing environment. Proficiency in common FA tools and methods, including X-ray inspection, SEM, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and visual inspection to IPC standards. Familiarity with structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone). Experience working with RMAs and customer returns in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment is preferred. Ability to clearly communicate technical findings both in writing and verbally. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Why Join DDI
Be part of a collaborative, employee-owned company with a strong culture of innovation and execution. Work at the intersection of quality, engineering, and customer satisfaction in a role that drives impact. Competitive compensation and benefits, with opportunities for professional development and growth.
