The Infrastructure Systems Architect plays a critical role in shaping and guiding the technology infrastructure of a large, multi-billion dollar enterprise. This position focuses on strategic planning, technology evaluation, and architectural design to support both on-premise data centers and evolving cloud initiatives. The Systems Architect collaborates closely with engineering and operations teams to develop scalable, efficient solutions that align with business goals and ensure long-term success.

Job Description
The Systems Architect is primarily responsible for developing and leading the technical strategy and architecture for enterprise infrastructure systems. This role involves working independently to design and plan complex systems solutions, collaborating closely with engineering, operations, and vendor teams to ensure alignment with business goals. The Systems Architect will focus on enterprise storage, virtualization, disaster recovery, and long-term infrastructure planning, providing expert guidance and technical leadership.
This position requires a deep understanding of on-premise data center environments, with the ability to evaluate and select technology solutions, develop roadmaps, and maintain technical standards. The Systems Architect will be the key technical resource driving architecture decisions and will report to the Systems Manager while collaborating with other architects and stakeholders.
Core Responsibilities
Develop and maintain the enterprise systems architecture roadmap, aligning with business growth and technology refresh cycles.
Lead technology evaluations and proof of concepts (POCs), comparing multiple vendor solutions to recommend optimal products based on performance, cost, and long-term viability.
Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to socialize and gain buy-in for architectural strategies and solutions.
Provide expert technical guidance on enterprise storage (SAN, fiber channel), virtualization (VMware), disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
Manage vendor relationships, participate in quarterly business reviews (QBRs), and contribute to funding requests and long-range planning.
Support licensing strategy and compliance for key enterprise software including Windows, Red Hat Linux, Oracle, VMware, and Microsoft SQL Server.
Serve as a level four escalation point for complex technical issues and critical incident situations.
Contribute to the development and enforcement of technical standards, conventions, and best practices within the infrastructure organization.
Monitor emerging technology trends and provide regular briefings to the team to inform future sourcing and architecture decisions.
Assist in planning desktop and mobile device strategies as needed.
Event Execution
Lead the planning phase of infrastructure initiatives, developing detailed blueprints and technical documentation for engineering teams to implement.
Oversee the execution of architectural plans, ensuring alignment with design specifications and business requirements.
Coordinate resource allocation, including hardware and technical personnel, to support project delivery.
Communicate project status and manage expectations with stakeholders and clients.
Mentor team members on architectural best practices and technical standards.
Conduct post-project reviews to capture lessons learned and identify opportunities for improvement.
Evaluate and recommend cost-effective solutions, actively seeking opportunities to optimize expenditures.
Collaborate with finance and sales teams to ensure accurate billing and invoicing related to architectural projects.
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, data security standards, and regulatory requirements.
Administrative & Training
Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of architecture processes and SOPs.
Engage in ongoing professional development through internal training programs and external learning opportunities.
Document architectural decisions, guidelines, and best practices to support knowledge sharing and team growth.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in systems architecture or a related IT infrastructure role within a large enterprise environment.
Proven expertise in enterprise storage solutions, including SANs and fiber channel technologies.
Strong background in virtualization technologies, specifically VMware.
Experience with disaster recovery strategies and business continuity planning in multi-data center environments.
Familiarity with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Red Hat Linux administration.
Knowledge of licensing models for enterprise software such as Oracle, VMware, and Microsoft SQL Server.
Ability to evaluate, compare, and select technology solutions through vendor bake-offs and proof of concept leadership.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and vendor teams.
Experience developing and maintaining multi-year technology roadmaps and architectural blueprints.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience leading cross-functional technical teams or large-scale infrastructure projects
Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell)
Advanced certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or similar
Experience with hybrid or multi-cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
Exposure to DevOps practices and infrastructure as code is a plus.
