THIS RECRUITMENT IS TO ESTABLISH A REGISTER
for future ATTORNEY I vacancies serving various roles within the Pima County Public Defense Services Department, including Legal Advocate, Legal Defender, Mental Health Defender, Office of Children's Counsel, Public Defender, and Public Fiduciary. Law students in their 3rd and 4th year, who will qualify by the time of hire, are encouraged to apply. Qualifications include Juris Doctorate and admission to the Arizona State Bar.

Pay Range
Pay Range: $81,328 - $154,523 Annually
Salary offers are based on experience and internal equity.
Coordinates and conducts legal work in Public Defense Services. Entry and/or intermediate-level legal work in criminal or civil cases. Prepares, defends, and resolves cases under supervision, with more independence for experienced attorneys.
Pima County Public Defense Services represents indigent individuals in various case types, providing direct client representation and handling diverse caseloads. Attorneys collaborate with paralegals, social workers, and investigators to advocate for clients.
This is an unclassified, exempt position from the Merit System Rules.

Essential Functions Tasks include prosecuting or defending criminal and civil cases across multiple courts, representing county departments, engaging in negotiations, conducting pretrial and trial work, researching legal questions, drafting legal documents, and complying with professional responsibility rules.
Minimum Qualifications Juris Doctorate and admission to the Arizona State Bar at the time of appointment.
Selection Procedure Applications are evaluated based on education and experience. Additional assessments may be required.
Additional Information Required licenses include Arizona State Bar admission and a valid Arizona Class D driver license. Background checks are required. Regular attendance and driving for field work are expected. Pima County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
