Community Change About Community Change and Community Change Action:
Community Change builds the power and capacity of low-income people, especially low-income people of color, to lead powerful and dynamic movements for social change.
Our vision of a better world centers the leadership of impacted people of color to move our work on immigrant rights, economic justice, and racial equity, including a focus on jobs and housing, early childhood care and education, income supports, and immigration reform.
This position also supports Community Change Action, an affiliated 501(c)(4) advocacy organization. While motivated by the same core values – equity, inclusion, and justice – Community Change and Community Change Action operate independently of one another and each organization has its own board of directors.
Position Description:
Community Change is seeking a strategic, bilingual Senior Communications Manager to lead narrative development and drive alignment across teams in support of our grassroots advocacy and movement-building work. This is a senior-level role for a Spanish language expert who is passionate about social justice and skilled in both media relations and message development. The Senior Communications Manager will play a key leadership role in expanding Community Change's reach and resonance—particularly with Spanish-speaking audiences—and ensuring consistency and power in our public voice.
Reporting to the Director of Media Relations and working closely with campaign and organizing teams, this position will shape and elevate narrative strategy across our issue areas, lead proactive and reactive media outreach, and serve as a resource and coach on messaging and storytelling. The Senior Communications Manager will also help build and maintain strong relationships with reporters, particularly those working in Spanish-language and national ethnic media.
This role may also support the work of Community Change Action, our affiliated 501(c)(4) advocacy organization.
Principal Responsibilities:
Lead Spanish-language communications strategy across all campaign and organizational priorities, ensuring clear, consistent, and culturally relevant messaging. Translate, draft, and review Spanish-language materials including press releases, talking points, toolkits, and campaign communications. Develop and implement strategies for narrative growth and alignment across departments and partner organizations. Cultivate and manage relationships with reporters, with an emphasis on Spanish-language, regional, and national ethnic media outlets. Serve as a thought partner and editor on messaging documents, including talking points, op-eds, speeches, press materials, and digital content. Represent the Communications team in campaign planning and cross-team alignment conversations to ensure cohesive messaging across platforms and spokespeople. Draft and edit both English and Spanish-language communications as needed. Monitor media coverage and provide strategic input to inform campaign adjustments and rapid response. Provide media training and messaging support for spokespeople and partner organizations. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications, journalism, media relations, or public affairs with a focus on social justice, advocacy, or organizing. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish (written and spoken) required. Strong writer and editor in both Spanish and English, with experience drafting public-facing materials. Proven experience developing and aligning narrative strategies across multiple teams or organizations. Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships with reporters and media outlets. Experience developing and reviewing messaging documents such as talking points, op-eds, press releases, and social media toolkits. Excellent project management and collaboration skills; able to keep multiple workstreams moving across departments and deadlines. Experience working with immigrant communities, communities of color, or grassroots organizations preferred. Strong commitment to equity, justice, and community-driven change. Comfort operating in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and urgency. Ability to work effectively across a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, intergenerational team.
