We're looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic

Assistant Coach

to support one of the school’s largest and most successful athletic teams, our Cross Country program, which annually engages over 70 student-athletes! This is a seasonal, part-time position during the fall semester, with practices and meets occurring on weekdays and some weekends. You'll work closely with the Head Coach to help manage a highly competitive and inclusive program that prioritizes individual growth, a strong team culture, and long-term athlete development. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for working with student-athletes and a commitment to fostering an environment that champions effort, consistency, and sportsmanship. Requirements What You'll Do

Training & Development:

Assist the Head Coach with all aspects of practice planning and execution, including warm-ups, tailored training runs, drills, strength and mobility work, and cooldowns. Individualized Support:

Provide constructive feedback and personalized support to athletes of varying abilities, helping each one reach their potential. Meet Day Operations:

Support seamless meet-day logistics, including supervising athletes, assisting with travel, and managing timing. Culture Cultivation:

Help build and maintain a strong team culture grounded in inclusivity, discipline, and mutual respect. Athlete Well-being:

Monitor the health, safety, and overall well-being of student-athletes during all practices and competitions. Holistic Growth:

Support student academic and character development in line with UHS values. Communication:

Communicate effectively and proactively with athletes, families, and athletic staff as directed by the Head Coach. Compliance:

Ensure strict adherence to University High School, Bay Counties League (BCL), North Coast Section (NCS), and CIF rules and standards. Team Participation:

Attend all scheduled practices, meets, and team events, including some weekend invitationals. Who You Are

Experienced Runner/Coach:

You have proven experience as a cross country runner and/or coach at the high school, college, or club level. Distance Running Knowledge:

You possess a strong understanding of distance running principles, training cycles, and injury prevention. Mentor & Motivator:

You have the ability to effectively mentor student-athletes and foster a truly supportive team culture. Skilled Communicator:

You exhibit excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Certified (or Ready To Be):

You hold, or are willing to obtain, CPR and First Aid certifications, as well as any required CIF/NCS coaching certifications. Compensation

This is a seasonal, part-time position. The

pay range is $5,000 – $8,000 , commensurate with experience and team assignment. Additional compensation includes responsibilities during the summer assessment period. Ready to Help Our Runners Thrive?
