Computer Graphics Engineer - Lunar Terrain Vehicle

(NASA LTVS Award Contingent)

Houston, Texas, United States

About Intuitive Machines:

Intuitive Machines is an innovative and cutting-edge space company making cislunar space accessible to both public and private customers. Our mission is to further science and exploration, communications, and economic progress from the Earth to the Moon and beyond. With the first commercial lunar landing in history, multiple NASA lunar missions in development, and additional private missions on our manifest, we pride ourselves in supporting our customers and the nation in paving the way to return humans to the surface of the Moon. Our world-class team includes experts in all aspects of spacecraft subsystems design, development, and test, on-orbit operations, and safety.

We are seeking a Computer Graphics Engineer to support the Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) program. This individual will develop high-fidelity synthetic imagery, terrain models, and visualization environments to support vehicle design, autonomous navigation, simulation, and mission operations. You will work closely with systems engineers, autonomy teams, and simulation specialists to create accurate and immersive visual datasets that represent the lunar surface environment.

*Employment in this role is contingent upon NASA selecting Intuitive Machines as the winner of the LTVS program, scheduled for announcement later in 2025.

Responsibilities: (This position is posted at multiple levels, with multiple openings) Develop and maintain synthetic lunar terrain models for use in simulation, testing, and visualization. Generate high-fidelity synthetic images for sensor simulation, autonomy development, and mission rehearsal. Use tools such as Unreal Engine, Blender, and Maya to create realistic terrain, lighting, and environmental effects. Collaborate with autonomy engineers to integrate synthetic datasets into navigation and perception algorithms. Support mission operations with visualization tools for planning, training, and real-time displays. Work with partner companies and NASA to ensure accuracy of lunar terrain representation and sensor modeling. Maintain pipelines for rendering, exporting, and integrating 3D assets into engineering and operations workflows. Document processes, standards, and technical approaches for synthetic environment generation. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Graphics, Game Design, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related field. 1+ years of experience in 3D modeling, visualization, or synthetic environment development. Proficiency in Unreal Engine 5, Blender, Maya, or equivalent tools. Experience with synthetic imagery generation for robotics, autonomy, or simulation. Strong skills in 3D modeling, texturing, rendering, and lighting. Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering and software teams. Preferred

Experience supporting robotics or aerospace applications with synthetic terrain or image generation. 3+ years of experience in 3D modeling, visualization, or synthetic environment development. Familiarity with sensor modeling (cameras, LiDAR, infrared) and integration into synthetic environments. Knowledge of lunar or planetary terrain datasets (e.g., LRO/LOLA) and converting geospatial data into 3D visualizations. Experience with Python or C++ scripting for pipeline automation in Unreal or Blender. Background in mission simulation or operator training visualization tools.
