The Role: As the General Manager for Rare Diseases, you will report to the Chief Marketing Officer and have end-to-end accountability for the Rare Disease Business Unit (BU), including mRNA-3927 for Propionic Acidemia (PA), mRNA-3705 for Methylmalonic Acidemia (MMA) and a pipeline of pre-clinical candidates . This is an enterprise-level leadership role with cross-functional accountability. In addition to managing the P&L, setting strategy and leading commercialization efforts, you will integrate activities across critical functions such as Manufacturing, Research and Clinical Development. While you will have dotted-line functional reports from these areas, you will also maintain dual accountability to relevant enterprise leaders. This includes ensuring that strategic planning, execution, and communication align with the broader corporate goals and stakeholder expectations. You will also serve as the Rare Disease Franchise Lead, managing the marketing team directly, while also acting as a key integrator across internal teams to drive prioritization, resourcing, and global-to-local readiness for successful asset launches and long-term portfolio growth. Here’s What You’ll Do: Lead Moderna’s Rare Disease Franchise with full strategic, operational, and financial accountability

Manage the Business Unit P&L

Own the integrated franchise strategy, including pipeline prioritization, lifecycle planning, and long-range forecasting

Develop compelling business cases and value narratives that shape investment and development decisions

Represent Rare Disease in governance forums and drive cross-functional priority-setting aligned with company strategy

Orchestrate execution across Marketing, R&D, Medical, Access, CMC, and Supply to deliver launches on time and within budget

Shape the go-to-market model, brand strategy, and external positioning to ensure global readiness and local adaptability

Partner with country and regional teams to drive alignment, insight-sharing, and sustained execution across markets

Build and scale commercial infrastructure and capabilities to support asset launches and portfolio expansion

Identify and develop long-term opportunity spaces and commercial innovation within the rare disease landscape

Lead structured planning, forecasting, budget management, and KPI tracking across the franchise

Influence enterprise-level portfolio prioritization and long-term growth strategy through active participation in global forums

Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications): Bachelor’s degree required

15+ years of progressive experience with significant commercial leadership exposure

Proven track record in end-to-end portfolio leadership, including launch execution, and lifecycle management

Direct U.S. launch experience in rare or specialty disease areas

Experience leading high-performing teams and cross-functional collaborations

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications): Full P&L ownership and accountability for the BU

Experience building and scaling commercial infrastructure in emerging or fast-growth therapeutic areas

Depth in rare or ultra-rare diseases, with working knowledge of clinical and regulatory pathways.

Strong understanding of global healthcare systems, access models, and payer engagement

Demonstrated success building and scaling teams in ambiguous or early-growth environments

Proven ability to influence across R&D, Medical, Access, and G&A functions

Strategic thinker with high learning agility, systems orientation, and disciplined operational follow-through

Executive presence with clear communication and alignment-building skills across senior leadership.
