This position is located at Departmental Offices, within the Management CFO - Treasury Operations. As an AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC, you will be responsible for installing, diagnosing, repairing, modifying and relocating equipment on various special-purpose air conditioning and heating units and/or systems that are frequently modified to provide specific and critical climatic conditions in the Main Treasury and Treasury Annex Buildings.
Duties Performs preventive maintenance to all types of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating equipment, including oiling fan bearings and ensuring proper oil levels in air compressor crankcases.
Inspects equipment to detect worn or damaged parts, tests for refrigerant leaks and proper functioning of controls, and proper operation of heating and air conditioning systems.
Observes and tests refrigerant cycles for cooling; diagnoses, tests and locates malfunctions on various heating and complex air conditioning equipment.
Ensures proper operation, maintenance, and major repair of refrigeration, air conditioning, heating and ventilating equipment in the Main Treasury and Treasury Annex Buildings.
Fabricates, installs, and maintains complex, specialized sheet metal and ducts, including dismantling equipment, cleaning parts, replacing worn components and repairing deficiencies of compressors, condensers, evaporators, seals, expansion or pressure valves, capillary tubes and temperature controls.
Requirements Physical Requirements: The work requires extensive walking and bending, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds, working in overhead or tight areas, and frequent stooping, stretching, kneeling and reaching. Work may involve visits to construction sites, machine rooms, and grounds.
Shift Work: Shift work and weekend work are mandatory. Position is subject to recall 24 hours a day. All new hires must comply with federal ethics laws and undergo background investigations as part of the employment process.
Key Requirements Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
A one-year probationary period may be required; continued employment is contingent upon supervisory certification that continued employment will benefit the Federal Service.
Public Trust background investigation will be required.
Declaration for Federal Employment to determine suitability for Federal employment; direct deposit required.
Selective Service registration for male applicants born after December 31, 1959 (or exemption).
Two forms of identification required for Personal Identity Verification (PIV) per Form I-9.
Relocation not paid; benefits and flexible work schedules may be offered.
