The General Manager has full profit and loss responsibility for the entire business unit, leading estimating, operational, and financial results for all paving, milling, and construction activities for Peckham Road Construction throughout New York and Western Vermont. The role requires a thorough understanding of profit/loss statements and construction accounts, ensuring positive, profitable outcomes through the job vs build process. Supported by an estimating team, project managers, and superintendents, the General Manager will oversee cost estimates, bid execution, and project management. Collaboration with other division managers is essential to meet construction and organizational goals. Operational responsibilities include milling, paving, cold mix paving, cold-in-place recycling, full-depth reclamation, and chip sealing. The role involves frequent travel to visit current and potential customers and job sites. The candidate should develop expertise in our processes, including engineering, science, quality control, and real-world applications. Organizational skills are vital due to the extensive territories and pavement treatments involved. Over time, the role aims to develop industry leadership and contribute to training future employees and customers. Participation in industry committees may be required to stay current on industry developments. The General Manager will work closely with the PII HR team to develop SMART goals, conduct performance reviews, and manage discipline issues. Strong leadership and motivational skills are essential. Essential Functions
Drive performance and growth opportunities in Eastern New York and Western Vermont. Maintain a safety culture that fosters openness, innovation, and continuous improvement. Foster teamwork and a unified sense of purpose among the team. Conduct site visits, engage with customers, and ensure their needs are met. Travel regularly to meet clients and showcase expertise. Oversee construction cost analysis, estimating, and bidding to ensure competitive proposals. Review contractual documents to align projects with company and client goals. Maintain a 2-week lookahead schedule for effective project planning and resource allocation. Collaborate with superintendents and project managers to communicate project progression. Understand regional market dynamics and assist in executing strategies to enhance performance. Enhance PII’s reputation as a leading provider and employer in the paving construction materials market by reinforcing company values and vision. Requirements, Education, and Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in commercial construction, material supply, or sales, preferably in road construction, or a bachelor’s degree in engineering, communications, marketing, or related fields. Deep knowledge of construction standards and best practices. Exceptional interpersonal and decision-making skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to prioritize and follow up effectively. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Leadership experience managing diverse teams and resolving conflicts professionally. Outstanding organizational skills and a successful track record. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Valid driver’s license and authorization to work in the U.S. are required. Other Duties
