This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will be responsible for test campaigns in support of manufacturing and qualifying flight avionics hardware. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of developing safe and robust avionics for the New Glenn launch vehicle. Responsibilities Systems engineering mindset—comfortable balancing big-picture requirements with detailed technical work Serve as the primary technical point of contact for internal customers requesting onboard camera systems Define system architecture for imaging and supporting sensors, including interfaces, data paths, and performance envelopes Own troubleshooting and post-flight data analysis to improve future designs Develop analog and/or digital boards for avionics systems, including sensors, cameras, and power systems Design across the product life-cycle, including concept, requirements definition, design, prototyping, verification, and release to production Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field Desire to work hands-on, both independently and within a team, across the avionics product lifecycle Experience 2+ years in camera system design, integration, and test, ideally with CMOS sensors Design and validate CMOS-based camera modules for harsh flight conditions (Thermal, Vibration, Shock, EMI, etc.) Experience with DO-160, MIL-STD-461, and SMC-S-016 (or equivalent testing standards) Preferred Qualifications Master of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field Experience 3+ years in camera system design, integration, and test, ideally with CMOS sensors Experience working with external vendors (camera modules, optics suppliers, etc.) Hands-on experience with sensor characterization, high-speed interfaces (MIPI, GMSL, FPD-Link, SerDes), I2C, VCM actuation, and optical calibration Design and validate CMOS-based camera modules for harsh flight conditions (Thermal, Vibration, Shock, EMI, etc.) Familiarity with video codecs (H.264/265), onboard storage systems, and telemetry integration Experience developing hardware to IPC J-STD-0001xS, IPC/WHMA-A-620x-S, and/or NASA-STD-8739.n standards Strong skills in Python or MATLAB for test automation and data analysis Develop test benches and scripts for validation and image quality benchmarking Compensation Range for WA applicants is $104,015.00-$145,620.30.
