Non-Profit - Senior Accountant - Hybrid in Minneapolis

THE RIGHT STAFF has partnered with a well-respected Twin Cities-based nonprofit in their search for a dedicated Senior Accountant to join their Finance and Accounting team. This full-time, contract-to-hire, hybrid position offers the opportunity to contribute to an organization that creates opportunities for individuals and families to thrive while supporting financial stability and community impact.

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in preparing consolidated financial statements, managing audits, supporting budget processes, and training staff, ensuring strong financial stewardship across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and consolidated financial statements for multiple entities.
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency across general ledger accounts and reporting systems.
  • Support finance leadership with monthly and annual reporting requirements.
  • Provide guidance and training to accounting staff and program teams on budgeting, compliance, and financial management.
  • Prepare financial documentation for annual audits and tax filings (Forms 990, 990T, and 1065).
  • Assist with external audit coordination and ensure GAAP compliance.
  • Analyze budget performance and trends to identify risks or opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve internal controls and streamline accounting processes.
  • Maintain and enhance accounting systems, procedures, and policies for accuracy and efficiency.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a minimum of five years of related experience required.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience working in a multi-company or complex accounting environment.
  • Nonprofit, fund, or property management accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA certification highly preferred.
  • Experience with consolidations and multi-entity accounting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; advanced Excel and report-writing skills preferred.
  • Familiarity with accounting software systems; experience with nonprofit systems such as Dynamics 365 or Workday Adaptive preferred.
  • Experience with new market or low-income housing tax credit projects a plus.
  • Ability to work compassionately and respectfully with diverse or low-income populations.

Position Benefits, Pay, & Schedule

  • Contract-to-hire opportunity
  • Office based in South Minneapolis, MN
  • Schedule: hybrid work environment
  • Pay ranges from $40 to $45 per hour while on contract, $83k to $91k annually once hired on permanently
  • Standard business hours with flexibility as needed
