Teacher Aide - Infant Toddler role at Educare DC POSITION OVERVIEW The Teacher Aide works cooperatively with the Infant-Toddler Teacher and Teacher Assistant to plan and implement the daily education program for the children. Under the reflective supervision of the Lead Teacher, the Teacher Aide will execute classroom activities and help maintain a classroom environment that is developmentally appropriate and meets the individual needs of children as mandated by federal, state, and local standards, and that reflect Educare's philosophy and curriculum. As part of the classroom educational team, and under the general direction of the School Director and direct supervision of the Lead Teacher, the Teacher Aide helps plan and participates in classroom, playground, and school activities designed to enhance all areas of each child’s development. The Teacher Aide will be responsible for assisting with implementing all program requirements in adherence to all performance and outcomes standards as prescribed by the multiple funding and model requirements. RESPONSIBILITIES Participate in training to build an understanding of the Educare Model. Participate in the local evaluation and national Educare Implementation Study, engaging in data feedback and planning for children and families and program improvement. Engage in Reflective Practice and Supervision throughout the program. Provide a high-quality early learning program with evidence-based curriculum and instructional activities. Support and provide continuity of care to help children develop secure relationships. Collaborate with the Family Engagement Specialist and other Educare personnel to promote each child’s goals related to early communication development, motor skills, and social/self-care skills. Participate in Family Child Service Reviews as scheduled. Attend and participate in scheduled trainings and coaching cycles; develop an individual plan for professional development. Assist in planning and implementing learning experiences across developmental domains to promote readiness for school. Create an attractive and engaging environment that encourages exploration and independence. Guide and facilitate activities with Lead and Assistant Teachers; provide responsive caregiving focused on social-emotional well-being. Engage positively with children and use appropriate discipline as outlined in the school policy. Cooperate with staff to maintain smooth school functioning and assist with transitions as needed. Aide in routines, including meal support, diapering/toileting, handwashing, and supervision during outdoor play. Assist with health and safety checks, IFSP-related activities, and volunteer orientation as needed. Assist in observing, documenting, and assessing children; support identification of developmental concerns and communicate with the team. Develop partnerships with families through open communication and involvement in the educational program. Participate in home visits and parent conferences as feasible under supervision. Complete time sheets and support substitution, staff meetings, and parent meetings as requested. Maintain confidential educational information and ensure appropriate handling of such information. Assist in daily routines and developmentally appropriate practices, including feeding, grooming, sleep monitoring, and supervision. Distribute newsletters and information as needed; perform other duties as required. EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES 1 year of relevant experience. Non-expired CDA Certification. Experience in an early childhood or child care program. Knowledge of infant-toddler development and care best practices; willingness to pursue related coursework as needed. Knowledge of Early Head Start Performance Standards and City/State licensing requirements. Ability to work cooperatively with team members and to present a positive image of the organization. Ability to plan, organize, and implement responsibilities with input from Lead Teacher and Assistant Teachers. Willingness to work in a program located in a high-risk, low-income community. Strong communication with parents and ability to handle confidential information responsibly. Basic computer knowledge and ability to learn new software as needed. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or G.E.D. ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS Background checks clearance as required by local, state, and federal regulations. Annual physical exam, drug screen, TB tests, and COVID-19 vaccination as required by Educare DC and regulations. Perform other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Manual dexterity to operate computers and office equipment; strong English language skills (verbal and written). Physical ability to interact with children, assist with activities, and lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to participate in home visits and parent conferences to discuss child development and progress.
