Position Overview
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining manufacturing processes for electronic assemblies to ensure superior quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This role partners closely with cross-functional teams-including engineering, production, and quality-to support New Product Introductions (NPI), drive continuous improvement, and enhance yield performance within an SMT/PCB assembly environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives by defining process requirements, creating process documentation, and facilitating seamless transition into production.
  • Develop, document, and optimize SMT, wave solder, selective solder, and conformal coating processes to ensure robust and repeatable results.
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to enhance Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) principles.
  • Partner with quality teams to ensure full compliance with IPC standards and customer-specific requirements.
  • Train and mentor production personnel in proper process execution, equipment operation, and best manufacturing practices.
  • Analyze production data-yields, defects, and cycle times-to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Evaluate and qualify new materials, equipment, and process technologies to improve manufacturing performance.
  • Drive cost reduction and process improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Provide technical support during audits, customer visits, and regulatory compliance reviews.

Knowledge & Expertise
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) for electronic assemblies.
  • Advanced knowledge of IPC-A-610 and IPC J-STD-001 standards.
  • Proficiency with Lean Manufacturing principles, ERP/MES systems, and manufacturing process documentation.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools, data reporting, and process control systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Valor process engineering tools and thermal profiling, DOE, and SPC techniques.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electronic assembly and PCB-related issues.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in SMT process engineering or equivalent manufacturing engineering role.
  • Proven ability to interpret PCA assembly drawings, technical documentation, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify critical parameters, collect data, and develop effective process controls.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in electronics manufacturing, preferably within SMT/PCB assembly operations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of IPC standards and SMT manufacturing equipment (stencil printing, reflow, AOI/X-ray, wave/selective solder, conformal coating).
  • Demonstrated success in implementing Lean, Six Sigma, or other structured improvement methodologies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and promptly report unsafe conditions to supervisors or Human Resources.
  • Support the company's Quality Management System (QMS) and maintain compliance with ISO, environmental, health, safety, and security standards.
