Overview Adjunct, Welding - SLTC at Salt Lake Community College – pooled, semester-to-semester adjunct position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. All employees are expected to maintain a permanent residence within the State of Utah as a condition of employment. New employees must provide a valid Utah residential address within 30 days of their start date. This is a pooled position; the department reviews applications as positions become available. All faculty are expected to maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and meaningful learning experiences, unless approved for online-only courses. This position is a contract-to-contract basis with no guaranteed future employment and may be terminated at will. You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide instruction and facilitate students’ learning in Oxy-acetylene welding, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, and blueprint reading (including welding symbols) leading to industry certifications and employment. Accommodate various learning styles, especially hands-on training, extending beyond the classroom when needed. Advise students on program requirements and their progress; assess abilities and provide documentation and feedback. Collaborate with other instructors to develop and coordinate quality classroom activities and curriculum as required. Provide an industry viewpoint to the training program to prepare students for the workforce. Keep current on technological advances in welding and uphold college policies and guidelines. Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators; provide timely feedback on assignments and return graded work promptly. Maintain attendance records and grades; conduct evaluations of student performance and communicate progress; assign and submit grades by published deadlines. Maintain a safe and respectful instructional environment; follow the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities; handle student concerns promptly. Maintain professional appearance and complete required employee trainings; know and enforce FERPA guidelines; administer ADA accommodations as needed. Communicate effectively with a diverse range of people; work with diverse groups including students, faculty, and staff; participate in a team-based instructional environment. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Six (6) years of full-time paid, non-teaching welding experience as a journeyman or equivalent. May include up to 1 year welding training (documentation required). OR an Associate Degree in a related field with 3 years of industry experience and 4 years welding experience. Must be a current member of the American Welding Society in good standing. Must be able to read and interpret welding blueprints and understand the AWS welding symbol system. Must demonstrate proficiency in welding processes including Oxy-Acetylene, SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW. Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching in competency-based adult programs. Experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work without close supervision in a diverse team; adapt to a prescribed curriculum while maintaining patience and creativity. Basic computer literacy (word processing, internet, email). Journeyman welding skills across common industrial processes; ability to work in a team and support various instructional delivery formats. Current or previous AWS CWI/CWE credentials are not mandatory but are a positive attribute (documentation required).
