We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper / Controller to manage the financial operations of our construction company. This hybrid role combines hands-on bookkeeping with strategic financial oversight, making it ideal for a professional who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoys wearing multiple hats.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate financial records.
Process invoices, expense reports, and vendor payments.
Track job costs and allocate expenses to appropriate projects.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Monitor cash flow and provide forecasts.
Analyze financial data to support decision-making and improve profitability.
Assist with budgeting and variance analysis.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
Coordinate with external accountants for tax filings and audits.
Manage subcontractor payments and lien waivers.
Track retainage and progress billing.
Handle project-specific financial reporting and cost tracking.
Support project managers with financial insights and reporting.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in bookkeeping or controller roles, preferably in the construction industry.
Strong understanding of job costing, progress billing, and construction accounting principles.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or Viewpoint).
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with AIA billing and construction contracts.
Experience with payroll processing and HR compliance.
