Notes:
Support staff: Team of 7 APPs in outpatient clinic, support 5 surgeons and 2 physiatrists, MAs and patient navigators help in clinic for scheduling and admin. APPs take care of all clinical aspects, exams, triaging calls, ordering imaging
Responsibilities
APP will be supporting the vice chair. This surgeon has very high expectations of the APP and will expect the APP to be able to work in neurospine surgery with competence.
Amount of coverage needed per month: every week, M-F
Patients per day: 20-22 patients/day in person, if taking telehealth visits it may go up to 26
Patient population/age: all adult
Department description: sees only neuro‑spine surgery patients, has both surgical and non‑surgical patients. Strictly clinic, no OR time, no inpatient, all outpatient. APP offers support to surgeons in clinic. Surgeons/fellows will do first visit and pre‑op visits, APP will handle post‑op and follow‑up appointments, take messages, order imaging, order medications, etc.
EMR: Epic
Special Procedures: Bread and butter outpatient surgery procedures like staple removal, drain removal, wound care. If the APP has a background in trigger point, hips, and/or knee injections that's a plus and APP may be asked to do injections if they have experience. Not required.
Qualifications
At least 2-3 years working in ortho spine surgery, neuro spine surgery, or pain management with spine patients. Will consider neurosurgery providers as long as they have thorough experience with neuro‑spine cases.
May consider neurology experienced providers should they have experience with spine.
A-GNP-C, ANP-C, FNP-C, GNP-C, AGPCNP-BC, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, GNP-BC, ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC.
License required: CA license required, no licensing.
DEA: Required with schedule 2 and 2n.
Certifications required: BLS.
Strongly prefers someone with academic medical center experience.
