About You This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody Hornblower’s RESPECT Service System.
About the Opportunity The Vessel Operations Manager will manage captains and vessel crew, lead training and provide feedback for evaluation of crew performance. They will ensure that all company policies and values are demonstrated and followed by marine crew. The Vessel Ops Manager ensures safe and efficient operations for Alcatraz Island service and will help create and improve system processes and assist on special projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Directly supervises the marine crew in all areas of Marine Transportation Safety, Security, and Training.
Coordinates training drills and ensures training talks are completed in a timely manner.
Conducts safety checks throughout operations, checking life saving equipment, vessel engineering, and all PPE is stored and maintained properly.
Handles weekly documentation checks of all logs, licensing information and safety training records.
Operates the vessel with due regard for proper Standards of Watch Standing and Wheelhouse Resources Management.
Routinely inspects all areas of the vessel for unsafe conditions, performs accident investigations, and makes safety announcements to ensure the safety and comfort of the crew and passengers.
Ensures Captains are conducting Watch Quarter Station Bill Emergency Drills and conducts Safety Meetings in conformance with policy.
Maintains Vessel Operations and Maintenance Logs, and all other Ship’s Business records.
Prepares vessels for COIs.
Purchasing and Invoicing.
Assist and coordinate with Maintenance and Engineering Departments.
Create and improve current systems and processes.
Responsible for creating, maintaining, and organizing documentation and records.
Assist in shipyard as needed.
Use and help others use Vessel Vanguard.
Help develop training programs and create training manuals.
Requirements & Qualifications
2+ years of management experience preferred.
U.S. Coast Guard Inland Masters (100 ton) or equivalent.
Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
Possess and maintain a current California driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
TWIC Required.
Customer service experience is helpful.
Knowledge of foreign language is helpful.
