About the role We’re seeking an experienced Engineering leader to help scale our growing engineering team. You will build and lead a motivated team responsible for developing our SaaS platform (Galaxy) to be the best data lake analytics platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of successfully building platforms, teams, and the culture necessary to create competitive advantage for previous companies along with a personal passion to see the same applied to this industry.

Responsibilities

Lead and grow a team of passionate engineers. Provide support and guidance that enables the team to self‑organize and achieve sustained high velocity and predictability.

Drive and deliver the vision for serverless SaaS and end‑to‑end functionality for the data lake analytics platform covering ingestion, data management, and governance.

Help employees grow through career development, coaching, and mentoring while guiding senior contributors to maximize their potential. Provide a clear path for progression through personal development plans, defining goals, performing evaluations, and collaborating on objectives.

Own, operate, and maintain your team’s services. Employ Agile methodologies to continuously deliver value to customers. Enhance and maintain a rotating on‑call incident escalation and response process.

Represent your team’s operational maturity to Starburst’s executives and product teams across the company.

Collaborate on roadmaps with Product Managers and Tech Leads to ensure the team has clear direction and priorities.

Act as an ambassador for Starburst, recruiting and motivating top talent.

Qualifications

4+ years of engineering management experience with a total of 8 years or more experience.

Track record of leading distributed systems engineering and operations teams in software companies.

Demonstrated expertise in building and running a platform in multiple locations at billions of events/week or greater scale either on‑premise or in public cloud. Specific expertise in highly available data architectures across multiple availability zones is highly desired.

Passion for engineering hygiene and operational excellence. Know how to build an engineering organization that delivers it.

Familiar with agile processes, continuous integration, and test automation.

Strategic thinker as it relates to scale and removing humans from the loop.

Thrives when operating in broad scope, from conception through the continuous operation of 24x7 services to defined SLA’s.

Distills complex and ambiguous situations into actionable plans for the team.

Represents customer perspectives, plans for how services will be impacted by the services built, and always works to enable their success.

Ability to Travel : Occasional in‑person travel for new hire onboarding, team and department offsites, customer engagements, and other company events.

Location

This role is based in our Boston or San Francisco office and follows a hybrid model, with an expectation of being onsite 2‑3 days per week.

Compensation Pay Range: $222,057 - $271,403 USD
