Job Profile Summary This position reports to the General Counsel and is primarily responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts. Additional responsibilities include supporting the Office of General Counsel in responding to public records requests, monitoring and advising on regulatory and legislative compliance, drafting and implementing College policies and procedures, and in conjunction with the General Counsel, advising administrators, faculty, staff, and the District Board of Trustees on myriad legal matters.

Broward College serves 50,000 students across three main campuses, encompassing 368 acres and 2.46 million square feet of facilities, supported by 4,000 employees and an annual operating budget of approximately $200 million.

Minimum Requirements

Law degree from an accredited law school.

Must be a member in good standing of the Florida Bar or if recruited from outside of Florida, employment is conditional upon passing the Florida bar and being licensed within 12 months of employment.

Three (3) or more years of legal experience, with contract negotiation experience preferred.

Experience with contract management software (Cobblestone) – preferred.

Experience with Florida’s Sunshine law/public records requirements – preferred.

Law Review/journal experience – preferred.

Essential Functions

Draft, review, and advise on contracts, policies, procedures, and other legal documents supporting College operations.

Provide high-level legal counsel to the College, and as directed, the District Board of Trustees, on a broad range of legal issues.

Support the Office of General Counsel in reviewing and responding to public records requests.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to take directions from the General Counsel and execute assigned work accurately and efficiently.

Strong negotiation skills.

Effective interpersonal skills to work within an academic community.

Excellent organizational and project management skills with an ability to manage shifting priorities.
