Position Overview Position title: Lecturer Salary range: UC academic salary scales. Estimated $68,247 to $74,577; salary commensurate with teaching experience. Percent time: 33% to 100% depending on courses taught. Anticipated start: August 1, 2025 (Fall 2025), January 1, 2026 (Spring 2026), or Summer 2026 (date depends on which summer session). Review timeline: Typically, the Department reviews applications for fall teaching in May or early June, spring teaching in November, and summer in March (if applicable). Position duration: Fall or Spring: 5 months; Summer: depends on session. Application window: Open date April 21, 2025; Final date Monday, Apr 20, 2026; Applications accepted until final date, but those received after review date considered only if position not yet filled.

Responsibilities Teaching one or more sections of a lecture course (or courses) and attend all lectures, advising students and holding regular office hours, assigning grades, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and maintaining a course website. Independent courses meet 3 hours per week; each section of lecture courses meet 1 hour per week (lecture attendance adds 2 hours).

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application): PhD (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in PhD or equivalent international degree-granting program at time of application. Additional qualifications (required at time of start): PhD (or equivalent international degree); college-level teaching experience by time of appointment; US visa/work permit for non-citizens. Preferred qualifications: PhD (or equivalent international degree) in English Literature or related field; demonstrated community member.
