Senior Media Relations Specialist – Houston Methodist
Lead strategic media relations for the Houston Methodist brand, elevating public perception through earned media coverage for Centers of Excellence and key institutional initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with physician chairs and administrative leaders to develop proactive media strategies, securing coverage that enhances brand and mission.
Develop, write, and edit press releases, media alerts, and story pitches to communicate key messages to journalists.
Proactively cultivate and nurture external media relationships, fostering strong relationships with key media contacts.
Track and monitor PR budget, national and international PR firms, media subscriptions, and PR intern program.
Track and monitor public relations (PR) budget; track national & international PR firms; monitor media subscriptions; oversee PR intern program; advise senior management on communications strategies.
Essential Functions
People Essential Functions – Proactively develop messages and respond to reporter interviews; foster and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders.
Service Essential Functions – Develop and oversee proactive communications and local/national/international media relations; advise senior management on communications strategies.
Quality/Safety Essential Functions – Develop clear communications; ensure immediacy and accuracy of responses to after-hours media inquiries.
Finance Essential Functions – Track and monitor corporate PR budget and PR intern program.
Growth/Innovation Essential Functions – Seek out innovative strategies to address primary beats in local, state, national and international media; identify ways to support manager with reactive media needs.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field.
Six years’ experience in media/public relations; healthcare experience preferred.
Strong writing, copyediting, and proofreading skills; proficiency in Excel and presentation software.
Excellent oral and written communication; ability to multi‑task and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated leadership, judgment, and conflict resolution skills.
