Open Rank - Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Journalism and Mass Communications - Focus on AI Full‑time tenure‑track faculty position at the University of South Carolina in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications (SJMC). The position focuses on artificial intelligence in mediated communication contexts, including emerging technologies such as AR/VR, digital content creation, and large language models.

Research Areas

Extended reality (VR/AR/MR)

E‑gaming, video games, data mining, Web 3.0

Computer vision, user‑facing bots, large language models, image and video generation

Blockchain, ad verification, smart contracts, software development, emerging content production tools and platforms

Required Education and Experience

Ph.D. in a communication‑related field by the start date. ABDs considered; Ph.D. required at time of appointment.

Well‑established record of digital communication strategy/analysis/content creation research, at least 5 years for Associate rank or 9 years for Full rank.

At least one research stream centered on artificial intelligence with published work contributing to SJMC’s core research areas.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated expertise for securing external research funding.

Demonstrated expertise in teaching undergraduate and graduate levels.
