FACULTY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY DEPARTMENT OF SPEECH, LANGUAGE, AND HEARING SCIENCES FULL-TIME TENURE-TRACK California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) is a comprehensive university serving the San Francisco Bay Area/Silicon Valley. THE DEPARTMENT The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is housed on the Hayward campus and is part of the College of Health. The department focuses on teaching, research, and service in speech-language pathology and audiology. It has approximately 120 undergraduate and 100 graduate students, five tenured/tenure-track faculty, two full-time and one half-time speech-language pathologist clinical staff, lecturers, and part-time clinical supervisors. Faculty engage in research and scholarly activities with students in several labs dedicated to Augmentative and Alternative Communication, Neurocognitive Research on the Rehabilitation of Language, Bilingual Stuttering and Linguistic Processing, and Multilingualism. The Norma S. and Ray R. Rees Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic includes multiple therapy rooms, a group room, an ATP program, a Speech Science Lab, a conference room, and an EEG test suite. The department is accredited by ASHA’s Council on Academic Accreditation and is authorized to grant the Speech Language Hearing Services Credential. A Bilingual Speech-Language Pathology Certificate program is slated to begin Fall 2027. DUTIES OF THE POSITION Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or Online campus. Tenure-track faculty are expected to perform duties within the state of California. Area of specialization is open but should complement current faculty. Preferred candidates will be able to teach one or more courses in areas such as linguistic and cultural diversity, speech science, voice, motor speech disorders, dysphagia, cognitive-communicative disorders, child language disorders and literacy. In addition to teaching, all faculty have advising responsibilities, assist with administrative and/or committee work, and are expected to participate in campus-wide committee responsibilities. RANK AND SALARY Assistant Professor. Anticipated salary range is $80,928 to $85,080 per year. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary authorization. DATE OF APPOINTMENT Fall Semester 2026 QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D. in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences or a closely related field is required by the effective date of appointment. Preferred qualifications include possession of CCC-SLP and eligibility for California licensure. Candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or community service that has prepared them to contribute to a commitment to diversity and excellence. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate a record of scholarly activity. Clinical experience and experience teaching graduate courses are preferred. Faculty who speak fluent Spanish will have the opportunity to contribute to the bilingual certificate.
