Compensation: $49.85 / Hour
Position Summary The
Subject Matter Expert (SME)
supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Corporate Training Solutions Division at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) by providing specialized technical expertise in the development, revision, and delivery of FAA training programs. This position ensures all instructional materials and courseware meet FAA training standards, policies, and guidelines while maintaining technical accuracy, safety compliance, and instructional quality.
Primary Responsibilities
Research and apply technical expertise in support of course development and revision projects.
Develop and revise instructional materials such as wall charts, lesson plans, webcasts, training handbooks, exams, and other course documentation.
Ensure all training content and courseware reflect current technical standards, safety procedures, and FAA operational requirements.
Collaborate with project team members and FAA stakeholders to ensure training deliverables meet established milestones and quality standards.
Instructional Delivery
Deliver assigned instructional materials in accordance with FAA training requirements and established delivery schedules.
Support classroom and/or laboratory instruction as required to validate course materials and assess learner comprehension.
Documentation and Quality Assurance
Write, proofread, and edit training documentation for technical accuracy, writing style, clarity, and consistency with FAA training templates.
Apply instructional design and technical writing best practices to ensure consistency and usability of courseware.
Review and incorporate feedback from FAA reviewers, subject matter experts, and instructional design teams.
Technical Skills and Tools
Utilize Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other software tools to create, format, and update text-based documentation and presentations.
Perform minor revisions and updates to existing instructional materials, graphics, and course documentation as needed.
Minimum Qualification Requirements Education
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Technology, or a related field; or
Government, Private Sector, or Military-specific technical training on systems or equipment of similar complexity.
Experience At least
two (2) years
of experience in any combination of the following areas:
Technical: Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, Electro-Mechanical Systems, Information Technology, or Logistics in Government or Private Industry.
Instructional: Teaching or developing training in Electronics Technology, Mechanical Systems, or Logistics for Government or Private Industry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proven expertise in the technical discipline related to assigned FAA course content.
Strong ability to develop, revise, and deliver technical training materials.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to clarity and accuracy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with e-learning or instructional design software.
Ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams and meet project milestones.
Strong understanding of safety procedures, FAA operational standards, and quality assurance practices.
Additional Requirements
U.S. Citizenship required.
Must be able to pass a background investigation and meet FAA security clearance requirements.
Ability to travel domestically, as required, for training delivery or development coordination.
