Software Engineer, Android Core Product – Macon, USA
The mission of Speechify is to make sure that reading is never a barrier to learning. Over 50 million people use Speechify's text-to-speech products to turn whatever they're reading – PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, websites – into audio, so they can read faster, read more, and remember more.
We work in a fully distributed setting with no office. Frontend and backend engineers, AI researchers, and product managers from leading tech companies build Speechify's text-to-speech reading products on iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome, and Web.
Overview With the growth of our Android app, we need a Senior Android Engineer to support a new and growing user base and to drive new and exciting product projects.
Responsibilities
Owning major features and working closely with design to deliver high quality Android features.
Shaping the future of our Android team and its technical roadmap.
Maintaining and improving reliability metrics for key features.
Participating in cross product discussions across Product, Design, and Engineering.
Reviewing pull requests and supporting teammates.
Handling critical issues or unexpected challenges.
Managing feature releases and providing nightly builds for QA.
Qualifications
5+ years of software engineering experience.
Familiarity with Android components and at least one Android app.
Strong product design intuition and user empathy.
Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX.
Understanding the importance of tests and how to write them.
Self‑drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the spec.
Rock‑solid experience with Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Workflow (Flow), Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Jetpack Navigation, Jetpack Compose, JUnit, Android Animations.
Excellent communication skills and user‑oriented problem solving.
Continuous feedback mindset with leadership.
Bonus
Open‑source Android contributions.
Experience with iOS, Web, or Node.js.
