Overview
DOT&PF, Central Region, is looking for an Engineer/Architect 1/2 Flex (Geotechnical Engineer) in Anchorage to help keep Alaska moving. Base salary information: Engineer/Architect 1 – $3776.00 bi-weekly (OT Ineligible); Engineer/Architect 2 – $4032.80 bi-weekly (OT Ineligible). What you will be doing
The Engineer 1/2 Flex will be part of a team in the Central Region Materials Section in Anchorage that collaborates to develop geotechnical recommendations in support of bid-ready documents for highway and aviation-related transportation projects. The incumbent will supervise and work closely with three Engineering Assistants while reviewing plan sets, creating drill plans, and coordinating with other design staff. This position primarily involves office work, with occasional trips to project sites, sometimes in remote areas accessible by small aircraft. Our organization, mission, and culture

The Central Region Materials Section is a team of over 20 members, including Geotechnical Engineers, Engineering Assistants, Engineering Geologists, and Lab staff. They collaborate to develop geotechnical design reports and recommendations supporting highway and aviation design projects. The incumbent will play a key role in this team, providing site-specific geotechnical recommendations to advance these projects. Benefits and working environment

The office is located at 5750 East Tudor Road in Anchorage, with a private office in the Central Region Materials Lab building. The Tudor office is near Far North Bicentennial Park with access to hiking and biking trails. Daily work centers on writing geotechnical recommendations in collaboration with peers and other staff; occasional field work may be required on project support. Who we are looking for
We are seeking individuals with the following core competencies: Geotechnical Engineering : Knowledge of subsurface soil or geologic conditions and properties for designing stable foundation systems, earthen structures, or remediation of subsurface conditions. Managing Performance : Responsibility for employees' performance, setting and communicating specific, measurable goals, tracking progress, providing resources, and addressing performance issues promptly. Writing : Strong command of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; ability to communicate succinctly and in an organized manner, including technical material for the intended audience. Valid Driver's License is required. Occasional travel to project sites within southcentral Alaska (1–2 trips per summer month), including flights to remote communities in small aircraft with occasional overnight stays. Regular site inspections may occur in adverse weather conditions. Qualifications
Engineer/Architect 1 : Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect. Some positions require professional registration in one of these fields. If not registered in Alaska, registration in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors with comity is acceptable, but registration in Alaska must be completed within one year of hire. Engineer/Architect 2 : Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect and one year of professional experience as an Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineering Associate with the State of Alaska or equivalent. If not registered in Alaska, comity is required with registration completed within one year of hire. Additional information

At interview, provide a copy of PE license if licensed outside Alaska, copy of valid Alaska driver's license, and three professional references. Alaska residents should review residency definitions. This position is flexibly staffed and may be filled at Engineer/Architect 1 or 2 level; starting salary depends on level, with potential promotion after probation and training if qualifying for the higher class.
