Engineer/Architect 2/3 Flex (Highway Design Project Manager)
to help us
Keep Alaska Moving! What you will be doing:
This position plans, manages, supervises, and controls all the activities necessary for the development and preliminary design of multiple small to large, capital improvement projects of varying complexity by coordinating the efforts of in-house design staff and/or private architectural and/or engineering consultants, functional groups within the Department, and other outside agencies. The position supervises professional engineering staff, mentoring in project management, project design, and consultant contract management duties. Our organization, mission, and culture:

This position is located at the Central Region Headquarters building by Lake Hood, the world's busiest seaplane base. You are likely to have a private office. Lake Hood is surrounded by a walking/biking trail where employees can be spotted during lunch break. This position provides flexible work hours, a competitive salary, personal leave and holidays, excellent health coverage, and many other supplemental benefits such as deferred compensation and health care reimbursement accounts. Benefits are negotiated by Supervisory Unit (SU) Union. The working environment you can expect:
Your office will be located at 4111 Aviation Avenue, Anchorage, AK. This work location allows you many options to live and play near a wide range of fantastic outdoor areas and urban community activities. You will be working from the DOT&PF Anchorage Headquarters building with options for teleworking in accordance with department policies. Office hours are flexible and allow for short work weeks in accordance with established policies. This position requires limited travel within the state, primarily southcentral Alaska. Trips are typically day-trips occurring once a month. Who we are looking for:
To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following core competencies: Civil Engineering : Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems. Oral and Written Communication : Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Organizational Awareness : Knows the organization's mission and functions, and how its social, political, and technological systems work and operates effectively within them; this includes the programs, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the organization. Teamwork : Encourages and facilitates cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity; fosters commitment and team spirit; works with others to achieve goals. Managing Performance : Takes responsibility for employees' performance by setting and communicating expectations and goals that are specific and measurable, tracking progress against the goals, supporting employees' efforts to achieve job goals (by providing resources, removing obstacles, acting as a buffer, etc.), ensuring feedback, and addressing performance problems and issues promptly. Position requires registration as a Professional Engineer or Architect in the state of Alaska. Valid driver's license is required. Minimum Qualifications Engineer/Architect 2
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect, and one year of professional experience as an Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineering Associate with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent. Engineer/Architect 3
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect, and three years of professional engineering or architectural experience (Engineer/Architect series), or the equivalent. Additional Required Information Copy of your Professional Engineering (P.E.) or Professional Architecture License Number (only if licensed outside the State of Alaska). Three (3) professional references, including name, job title, and current phone numbers. Copy of Valid Driver's License ALASKA RESIDENTS ONLY
