Engineer/Architect 1/2 Flex (PCN 250504) The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Central Region, is looking for an Engineer/Architect 1/2 Flex (Geotechnical Engineer) in Anchorage to help us Keep Alaska Moving. What You Will Be Doing

The Engineer 1/2 Flex will be part of a team in the Central Region Materials Section in Anchorage that collaborates to develop Geotechnical Recommendations in support of bid-ready documents for highway and aviation-related transportation projects. The incumbent will supervise and work closely with three Engineering Assistants while reviewing plan sets, creating drill plans, and coordinating with other design staff. This position primarily involves office work, with occasional trips to project sites, sometimes in remote areas accessible by small aircraft. Organization, Mission, And Culture

Our department\'s mission is to Keep Alaska Moving through service & infrastructure, while our division\'s core mission is to develop, design, and advertise projects that preserve and improve Alaska\'s transportation and public facilities infrastructure. The division also provides a wide range of technical services to the department, as well as to other state and federal agencies, local governments, utility companies, and the public. The department emphasizes performance-based results, excellence, integrity, teamwork, and service to benefit the public. The Central Region Materials Section is a team of over 20 members, including Geotechnical Engineers, Engineering Assistants, Engineering Geologists, and Lab staff. They collaborate to develop geotechnical design reports and recommendations supporting highway and aviation design projects. The incumbent will provide site-specific geotechnical recommendations to advance these projects. Benefits And Working Environment

The Working Environment You Can Expect: The office is located at 5750 East Tudor Road in Anchorage, a satellite office to 4111 Aviation Avenue. The position has a private office within the Central Region Materials Lab building. The Tudor office is near Far North Bicentennial Park with access to hiking and biking trails. Daily work centers on writing geotechnical recommendations in collaboration with peers and overseeing three Engineering Assistants. Occasional field work may be required in support of program projects. Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking an individual with the following core competencies: Geotechnical Engineering: Knowledge of subsurface soil or geologic conditions and properties for designing stable foundations, earthen structures, or remediation of subsurface conditions. Managing Performance: Set and communicate expectations, track progress, provide resources, remove obstacles, give feedback, and address performance issues promptly. Writing: Strong English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; ability to present concise, organized information including technical material for the intended audience. Special Note

Valid Driver\'s License is required. Occasional travel to project sites within southcentral Alaska (typically 1-2 trips per summer). May include flying to remote communities in small aircraft with minimal accommodations. Regular site inspections in adverse weather conditions may be required. Minimum Qualifications

Engineer/Architect 1: Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect. Note: Positions will specify which professional field is required. Special note: Non-Alaska-registered applicants must be registered in a state recognized for comity and become registered in Alaska within one year of hire. Engineer/Architect 2: Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect, and one year of professional experience as an Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineering Associate within the State of Alaska, or the equivalent. Special note: Same comity requirement as above. Additional Required Information

This position is flexibly staffed. It may be filled at Engineer/Architect 1 or 2 level. Salary ranges are provided above. Starting salary will be determined by the level; promotion to the higher level may occur after probation and training, if the applicant meets minimum qualifications for the higher class.
