Mechanical Engineering Assistant Professor (Fall 2026)
California State University, Fresno invites applications for two tenure‑track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor rank with a Fall 2026 start date. Both positions are academic‑year appointments in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Lyles College of Engineering.
Overview The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers an accredited BSME program and a minor in Aerospace Engineering. Faculty provide hands‑on and project‑based learning to over 500 students and support national design competitions and internships.
Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories in mechanical engineering and related fields.
Develop and teach courses and laboratories in one of the following areas:
Design, numerical analysis, machine learning, and AI (Position 1).
Mechanics, robotics, automation, process control, materials, and manufacturing (Position 2).
Engage in teaching, advising, research, scholarly work, professional development, and service activities.
Initiate a viable research program, publish in refereed journals and conferences, apply for internal and external funding, and supervise undergraduate and graduate student projects and theses.
Participate in professional activities, including meetings, workshops, and industrial relationships, and in EAC‑ABET accreditation activities.
Qualifications Required Education
Doctorate (Ph.D., D.Eng., Dr‑Ing., or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
Specialization aligning with the advertised position:
Position 1 – design, numerical analysis, and AI: expertise in computer‑aided engineering, numerical simulation, and machine learning/AI.
Position 2 – mechanics, manufacturing, and automation: expertise in mechanics, materials, and manufacturing, with emphasis on sensing, robotics, process control, and automation.
Required Qualifications and Experience
University‑level teaching record.
Demonstrated experience in teaching, research, and scholarly activities.
Evidence of research publications.
Commitment to working effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
Proficient communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
Teaching experience in design, numerical methods, machine learning, and AI (Position 1) or in mechanics, automation, materials processing, and manufacturing (Position 2).
Grant writing experience.
Leadership roles in professional organizations.
Industry, government, academic experience and preparation.
