Catering & Events Manager
Summary of Role
This is one of the most unique and dynamic hospitality roles you’ll find — blending creativity, operational excellence, and mentorship. The Catering & Events Manager is responsible for generating leads, responding to inquiries, and overseeing the full life cycle of events from proposal through execution. This includes both offsite catering and onsite private events, ensuring each guest experience reflects Café Momentum’s high standards of hospitality and heart.
The role also includes mentoring our interns — providing hands‑on training in catering setup, service, and guest communication — and modeling the professionalism that defines Café Momentum’s culture. This position reports to the General Manager.

As a nonprofit restaurant and professional training facility for justice‑involved youth, we transform potential into purpose through hands‑on training in hospitality.
Café Momentum offers a 12‑month paid internship for justice‑involved youth, providing them with opportunities to gain hands‑on experience in all aspects of the restaurant industry. Throughout the program, interns receive wraparound support from a dedicated case management team that focuses on social and life skills development. Our mission is to transform young lives by equipping our community’s justice‑involved youth with life skills, education, and employment opportunities to help them achieve their full potential. The Catering & Events Manager plays a pivotal role in this mission — leading our catering and private event operations while mentoring young people who are gaining real‑world experience and confidence in the process.
What You Will Do
Catering Sales & Events Management
Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of offsite catering and onsite private events, ensuring exceptional service and alignment with the Café Momentum Core Values.
Generate new leads through proactive outreach, community engagement, and partnering with marketing — building new relationships and advancing existing ones to grow Café Momentum’s catering and events portfolio.
Manage all logistics, staffing, menu planning, rental needs, and client communication.
Collaborate with kitchen and FOH teams to ensure seamless prep and execution.
Build strong relationships with clients, donors, and community partners.
Track event revenue and support financial goal setting.
Respond to incoming leads within 24‑48 hours.
Other responsibilities as directed by the General Manager.
Intern Training & Development
Provide hands‑on training for interns in catering setup/breakdown, service standards, and beverage service.
Model professional service and communication in high‑pressure, guest‑facing environments.
Partner with program staff to support intern development and progression through the internship.
Team Collaboration & Leadership
Work closely with FOH, BOH, and program teams to integrate interns into catering/event roles.
Foster a culture of excellence, mentorship, and support.
Support internal staff training related to events, catering protocols, and wine service.
Qualifications
Required:
3+ years of experience in catering or group dining sales and management
Proven ability to manage multiple events and teams simultaneously
Previous experience with Triple Seat, Toast, OpenTable, and/or other catering management software
Passion for working with justice‑involved youth
Excellent organization, communication, and leadership skills
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed for events.
Preferred:
Experience in a nonprofit or social enterprise setting
