Position Summary:
This position develops, organizes and implements YMCA programs including youth, teen and adult sports, preschool enrichment classes. This position reports to the Youth and Enrichment Director.
Key Responsibilities
Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives, establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
Recruits, trains, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed, reviews and evaluates staff performance, develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
Works with Youth and Families Director to ensure proper maintenance of gymnasium and all related equipment.
Ensures the development of a sports program schedule seasonally with season sports calendar reflecting in age-appropriate activities & leagues for children.
Works to expand our Youth Development Initiative to serve pre-teens and teens and manage Teen Space for maximum usage.
Markets and distributes program information to YMCA members and the community.
Develops, coordinates and implements innovative programming for ages beginning at 2 to adult.
Direct service with delivering of classes is an essential function.
Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
Responds to all member and community inquiries and requests in a timely manner.
Assists with program committee meetings where appropriate.
Compiles program statistics, monitors and evaluates the effectiveness and participation in program.
Assumes a fair share of responsibilities of the administration of the branch, including nights and weekends.
Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent; working towards obtaining degree in recreation or health related field.
One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as a sports coach or volunteer.
Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, commercial driver’s license.
Skills and Competencies Excellent public relations and conflict resolution skills to facilitate positive relationships with parents, staff, children, and outside agencies. Detail orientation, accuracy, and ability to delegate responsibility.
