Director, Alumni Engagement Reports to: Associate Vice President, Alumni Engagement & Giving

Position type: Staff – Full‑time

Summary: The Director, Alumni Engagement leads efforts to meaningfully engage NJIT’s alumni community. Managing three direct reports, the Director oversees programs, events, and services that connect alumni, volunteers, and students with one another and with the university.

Essential Functions

Work closely with the AVP, Alumni Engagement & Giving and the Director of Annual Giving to implement and maintain programs and events that increase engagement and generate sustained relationships that lead to philanthropic investments.

Lead and implement the alumni engagement strategy using creativity, industry best practices, and data analytics.

Provide strategic guidance and leadership to the alumni engagement team.

Develop strategy for alumni engagement events, particularly signature events such as Homecoming and Golden Highlander/50th Reunion.

Cultivate and manage a portfolio of 50 alumni prospects to strengthen engagement and philanthropic investment.

Expand alumni career services benefits and industry networking opportunities in collaboration with campus partners.

Partner with alumni volunteers to direct strategy and implement programs for affinity groups.

Use data, including NJIT’s alumni engagement score, to assess programs and develop strategy.

Assume responsibility for meeting goals, objectives, and key performance indicators for alumni engagement.

Foster a culture of engagement and pride among students, alumni, volunteers, and other external constituents.

Guide and mentor staff on best practices, strategies, programs, and priorities related to alumni engagement; build trust‑based, positive, authentic working relationships and model desired behaviors.

Collaborate with university partners to support alumni–student connections and advance institutional priorities.

Collaborate closely with Executive Directors of Development to support donor pipeline development through strategic engagement and stewardship opportunities.

Manage and responsibly steward the Alumni Engagement budget.

Prerequisite Qualifications

bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in alumni relations and/or advancement.

experience with CRM platforms, databases, and analytics.

strong ability to relate effectively to alumni, volunteers, students, and external constituents as well as internal partners.

demonstrated ability to design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive plans for alumni relations, establishing goals and objectives that translate into annual operating plans.

exceptional writing, speaking, interpersonal, and analytical skills.

ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, manage and motivate volunteers, and develop creative, timely, and efficient solutions.

position involves travel as well as the ability to work evenings and weekends.

at the university’s discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Salary and Benefits Annual salary range: $95,000–$110,000 (USD). The pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items. NJIT offers comprehensive benefits; please visit
