Overview Instructor/Assistant Professor, Chemistry at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC). Faculty load: 15 hours per semester. Salary: $58,055–$72,915. Hours per week: 40. Full‑time exempt position. Regular in‑person presence on campus and at alternative locations depending on class schedule and duties.

Job Summary AACC is committed to enriching the educational experience through a diverse team who contribute to the college’s excellence, equity, and inclusion. The college seeks a broadly diverse faculty who support the mission, values, and equal rights of all people. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. full‑time; employment‑based visa sponsorship is not available. Pay dates: 7th and 22nd of each month (or preceding Friday if weekend). Eligible employees reside in Maryland or specified states.

Primary Responsibilities

30 faculty load hours annual contract taught during Fall and Spring Terms – may include face‑to‑face, online, or hybrid instruction and instruction at off‑site locations depending on student need.

6 office hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, including student advising and mentoring.

Teaching and assessing student learning.

Professional development.

Department, school, and college/community service.

Additional Responsibilities

Mentoring students from target groups; new full‑time faculty; part‑time faculty.

Designing, formatting, and delivering curriculum for all learning modalities. Training and consulting for workforce initiatives.

Developing and implementing community education and extended learning programs.

Partnering with colleagues to enhance services to students and the community.

Recruiting and marketing.

Devising retention strategies and activities.

Strengthening relationships and collaborative activities with K‑12 and baccalaureate‑granting colleagues.

Teaching the General Chemistry 1 and 2 lecture and lab courses using evidence‑based teaching practices.

Remaining current on effective teaching and learning practices that promote equity and inclusion in science.

Teaching other courses such as CHE 113, 115, 213, 214 as needed.

Collaboratively and independently developing accessible course materials and curriculum.

Serving on department and institutional committees.

Accepting any special assignments that further the mission of AACC.

Availability to teach evenings and/or weekends as needed.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in chemistry or a related field with at least 18 hours of graduate chemistry courses.

Demonstrated experience teaching college‑level introductory chemistry courses.

Experience with teamwork/collaboration in teaching and/or course development.

Ability to deliver required, predefined course curriculum while incorporating individual knowledge and experiences to engage students and make the course relevant.

Experience teaching with learning management systems and electronic textbook resources.

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise in evidence‑based pedagogy and classroom management techniques designed to maximize student success.

Experience teaching community college introductory chemistry courses.

Expertise with LMS and best practices for design of online components of a course.

Experience with curriculum development for face‑to‑face and/or online chemistry courses that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti‑racism.

Demonstrated ability to create accessible course materials.

Ability to communicate orally and in writing in Spanish.

Experience mentoring undergraduates.

Experience working with science outreach activities in the community.

Actively involved in chemistry teaching organizations.

Ph.D.

Essential Conditions Full‑time faculty are expected to participate on committees in the department and the college. Candidates should have evidence of ongoing commitment to personal and professional development and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
