Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Technologist for the Operating Room at our M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank and M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital locations in Minneapolis, MN. This position offers a $7500 sign-on bonus and a generous relocation bonus up to $5,000! This is a 1.0 FTE (80 hours per two week pay period), benefits-eligible opening on day/eve/night shift, rotating, 8 hour shifts, on-call requirement (generally 1x weekly and 1x weekend per month per specialty team need). As a Surgical Technologist, you’ll assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging, and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You’ll play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room.
About Our OR At UMMC West Bank
We are a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Minnesota and in turn has students, residents, fellows placed in this OR daily.
The West Bank has 15 operating rooms, 1 EP Lab, and 1 Cath Lab.
We are performing an average of 36 cases per day.
High Volume Ortho/Spine/Oral (mainly adults), Peds CV-Hearts/Cardio Thoracic Peds, Neuro/Generals/Urology/Bariatrics, Peds Transplant, Adult Urology, Benign GYN, ENT/Eye/Plastics, Peds Dental, Robotic DaVinci.
We provide innovative surgical suites for adult and pediatric patients needing surgical intervention.
We are currently renovating additional ORs to complement the existing 4 larger ORs, as well as creating new locker room and OR storage space.
Our strong team is continuing to grow even stronger as we offer cross service training under the guidance of our scrub tech supervisor and scrub tech educator. Teamwork is extremely important and we are looking for a new team member who will bring their positive energy, willingness to learn, and excitement for education and new opportunities to the table and join our collaborative team of dedicated techs who are focused on safety and patient advocacy. Performs the functions of a surgical technologist as a scrub person during surgical procedures providing patient care services appropriate to the age of the patients (ages pediatric through geriatric) served during the shift of duty in collaboration with the RN. Is responsible for adhering to standards of nursing practice and patient care, correct use of supplies/equipment and maintenance of the surgical suite under the direction of an RN.
Responsibilities
Serves as scrub person during operative procedures
Anticipates surgeon’s needs
Supplies appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items
Maintains aseptic technique during all sterile procedures
Assures proper identification and handling of specimens
Completes all required sponge, sharps, and instrument counts
Follows appropriate action in emergency situations
Provides patient care
Adheres to standards of clinical practice and patient care appropriate to the age of the patients
Assists in transfer/positioning of patients
Collaborates with the MD and circulating nurse to provide care for each patient
Respects the confidentiality of all information
Corrects use and setup of supplies and equipment
Assures availability and proper functioning of supplies and equipment
Assembles and adjusts equipment
Cleans, replenishes, and sterilizes instruments and supplies as needed
Participates in the evaluation of new equipment or supplies
Assists other members of the team with terminal cleaning of room in readiness of next patient
Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served
Partners with patient caregiver in care/decision making
Communicates in a respective manner
Ensures a safe, secure environment
Individualizes plan of care to meet patient needs
Modifies clinical interventions based on population served
Provides patient education based on an assessment of learning needs of patient/caregiver
Required Qualifications
Military surgical assistant or
LPN surgical assistant or
Surgical technologist training
If LPN, must be MN licensed
Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc, Red Cross or MTN)
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
1- 3 years surgical experience
AST Certification or certification eligible at time of hire
