This position is a full-time teaching position that could start as early as January 2026 or August 2026.
Responsibilities
Teach and/or assist with Lower and Middle School band classes
Assist with the Upper School Band, including the Pep Band
Teach an Upper School jazz combo class and/or a music technology course
Support recruitment and retention efforts across grades 5–12
Explore opportunities for chamber music and Middle School jazz ensembles
Work together with the other band directors to create a unified and robust band program
Build strong relationships with students and parents, fostering students’ musical growth
Administer and evaluate student assessments as appropriate
Plan, prepare, and direct performances as needed
Provide additional help for students before school, during lunch, and after school as needed
Assist with all logistical aspects of the band program, including instrument inventory, trip planning, instrument repair, parent communication, music library management, etc.
Chaperone trips such as MPA, All-District, All-State, NCAIS Honor Band, Carowinds Festival of Music, and others
In addition to teaching responsibilities, the teacher will:
Advise a group of 10 to 12 students.
Participate in periodic duty assignments (e.g., lunch, detention, etc.).
Qualifications
Expertise in brass or percussion is preferred.
Expertise in Jazz or Music Technology is preferred.
Demonstrates expertise in instrumental music education, as evidenced by personal skills and knowledge, an undergraduate or graduate degree, or direct subject area teaching experience.
NC State teaching license preferred.
Demonstrates good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
Demonstrates ability and experience to engage and inspire students in grades 5-12.
Teaching experience in a public or private school is preferred.
Demonstrates ability to work effectively with parents and members of the school community.
