Pathology - Team Lead (HTL) – AP – Full Time – Needham

Summary Of Position As directed, provides technical guidance, support and workflow direction to histotechnologists, histotechnicians and other Pathology personnel on the evening shift. Manages day-to-day workflow and ensures turnaround time requirements are met. Performs and assists in a variety of standard and specialized laboratory procedures and tests. Demonstrates the ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced environment. Provides exemplary service and is a role model for staff. Works in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
Provides leadership and direction to staff and takes a lead role in training staff to perform competently.
Schedules staff coverage within the department to provide highest quality and the most efficient patient service.
Provides guidance and training for technical processes and procedures as well as quality control procedures. Participates in Quality Assurance activities.
Evaluates and resolves daily operational problems. Appropriately addresses both clinical and patient complaints.
Assists supervisor as needed in departmental functions. Writes and revises technical procedures, identifies problems and brings them to attention of supervisor, acts in place of supervisor during his or her absence.
Understands and is competent in other Pathology Department job responsibilities and performs these functions on a regular basis.
Recognizes and effectively communicates all department problems in a timely manner to the Department Manager/Supervisor.
Performs laboratory procedures as a histotechnologist.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree or graduate of an accredited histotechnology program. ASCP certification as a histologic technician (HTL) or equivalent.
Skills and Experience: At least 5 years of histology experience. Functioning knowledge of anatomy, chemistry, physiology, and experience in enzymes histochemistry and immunoperoxidase stains. Ability to perform accurate, reliable and high level work quickly and under pressure. Good hand eye coordination and the ability to work with delicate instruments and automated equipment. Able to function with minimal technical supervision. Written and verbal communication skills, leadership potential. Exercises good judgement in routine and non-routine situations. Some supervisory or leadership experience helpful.
