Highway Maintenance Specialist – Broom Crew (Night Shift) – Denver (CDL Required)

Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT)
Salary:
Total annual compensation $65,400 ($53,400 base pay + $12,000 housing stipend). Base pay $2,053.85 biweekly ($53,400/annually). Additional $1,000 monthly housing stipend. Annualized hourly rate $25.68, overtime rate $38.50/hour.
Schedule:
Monday – Thursday, 8:00 PM – 6:30 AM (four‑day shift, 10‑hour days). On‑call as needed for weather or emergencies.
Responsibilities
Plow snow, mow grass and weeds, and remove debris from roadways, culverts, and tunnels.
Shovel gravel, sand, concrete, asphalt, and dig ditches.
Install and repair guardrail, highway markers, signs, warning signs, and lighting.
Fill potholes and road cracks; set out signs and cones for traffic control.
Remove graffiti and install pavement markings/striping.
Stop or slow traffic in emergency situations.
Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs.
Follow safety guidance and wear proper safety equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
At least 2 years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience.
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) with no air‑brake restriction.
Must pass background and pre‑employment screening (criminal, driving records, etc.).
Must pass controlled substance test and DOT physical.
On‑call work, shift work, and essential services designation required.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
Experience operating single and tandem‑axle dump trucks, loader, bulldozer, backhoe, etc.
Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software/equipment.
Years of state service experience related to the duties of this position.
Desire to learn, work outdoors, and solve problems.
