About the Position
An Associate Faculty primarily instructs undergraduate and/or graduate courses in specific disciplines in accordance with University of Phoenix learning objectives and course outlines, engaging with students to drive academic rigor and student success. In addition to classroom instruction, an individual performs a variety of classroom-related and other activities, which are established by university leadership and/or dictated by specific course requirements, to ensure every student has the opportunity to learn, progress, and achieve academic success.
Note
Candidates for this position will have the required academic credentials and will have at least 1-3 years of teaching at the graduate and/or professional level. This will include teaching related content with current and relevant practice experience.
Successful candidates understand this role is supporting DNP students as a project chair and agree to be available to the student throughout the program.
Responsibilities
Deliver course content, learning activities, and student assessments using the University’s current course materials. Share supplemental knowledge and experience to help students understand and make connections between course concepts and real-world applications. Ensure all class materials are available to students on a timely basis to facilitate timely participation and relevant classroom instruction and discussion.
Provide each student the opportunity to grow, develop, and achieve academic success by maintaining an engaged classroom presence, timely responding to student inquiries, and creating a supportive learning environment that empowers students to develop cognitive skills and confidence. Proactively address student academic issues in accordance with University policies and guidance.
Perform additional duties such as coaching, tutoring, and identifying appropriate resources; oversee student clinical/practicum/mentorship experiences as required by the course and/or program, as applicable.
Attend faculty meetings and University events as required, and maintain current knowledge of applicable course updates, instruction standards and other information that contributes to associate faculty effectiveness and student engagement and achievement.
Maintain current professional and technical knowledge of content areas through employment, professional certification/licensure, conferences, publications, and other viable means.
Instruct and perform other job-related duties in an online environment, and maintain understanding of applicable University technology and adapt to changes to facilitate classes and maintain active faculty status.
Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Doctorate in Nursing (DNP, DNS, PhD) with completion of a dissertation or culminating project
Must have 6 graduate semester credits in Research Methodology and/or Evidence-Based Practice and/or Quality Improvement or equivalent
Must have professional experience in a leadership or management position AND 3 years of experience in doctoral level nursing practice
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Degree must be from a regionally accredited institution
Active RN license (unencumbered or unrestricted) in the state of residence or practice, or a multistate RN license
1-3 years of direct work with DNP students (preceptor or mentor experience qualifies) helping students define an evidence-based practice change or quality improvement project
Experience in doctoral level practice in healthcare including administration, clinical, informatics, and consulting
CURRENCY:
Faculty must have doctoral level nursing practice experience, OR doctoral level project leadership experience, OR have completed a doctoral level project through an earned Doctor of Nursing degree in the last 10 years
SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENT:
All faculty members must have one record of scholarship annually that meets University of Phoenix’s definition of scholarship engagement. Faculty who do not initially meet this requirement may still be qualified; they have one year from the effective date to comply.
College of Nursing requires all faculty with approved courses within the College to maintain Annual Scholarship
Additional Qualifications
Familiarity with adult education teaching and learning theory
High level of problem solving and decision-making ability to assess student work and provide guidance
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills to communicate with diverse constituencies
Technology proficiency, including Microsoft suite programs
Able to convey a professional image and represent the University appropriately

The project chair is responsible for providing guidance and direction to students in a DNP program that is clinically relevant and focused. They should meet with students every 2-3 weeks, assist with writing as needed, be collaborative, and work with faculty and students during project development.
Will review and approve practice hours in the program’s system.
Pay and Benefits Pay Range: For all states except CA, per course basis, between $1,035 and $3,686. In California, the hourly rate is $21.85.
