JOB SUMMARY The Coding Quality Analyst reviews medical records to validate the completion of all coding audit workflows. Analyze audit findings coded health information records to evaluate the quality of coding and abstracting, verifying accuracy and appropriateness of assigned diagnostic and procedure codes, as well as other abstracted data, such as POA, discharge disposition, etc. Ensure accurate assignment of all risk adjustment variables. The Coding/Quality Analyst will assist the Supervisor by tracking and trending front‑end activities that influence coding audit workflows, identifying opportunities for workflow efficiencies and optimization to support quality initiatives and financial performance. This role will collaborate with the Coding, CDI and the DRG Denials Teams.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Required

3 years Acute Hospital‑Based Coding experience

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Experience working in a remote environment

Licenses and Certifications

RHIT – REGD HEALTH INFO TECHNOLOGIST

RHIA – REGD HEALTH INFO ADMINISTRATOR

CCS – CERTIFIED CODING SPECIALIST AHIMA

CIC – AAPC Certified Inpatient Coder

Preferred Education

Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management, or a closely related field

Experience

5 years of related experience

Experience in an Academic Medical Center

JOB DUTIES

Ensure Vizient risk adjustment variables have been assigned in final code set

Make corrections as appropriate

Ensure coding change recommendations and relative processes are completed in all systems, 3M, Epic, eValuator

Ensure all valid coding audit recommendations are assigned in final code set

Validate abstracted data, Present on Admission (POA), discharge disposition (DD), point of origin (PoO), Admit Type, and other abstracted data

Track and report Coder non‑compliance to the Manager

Analyze and effectively identify audit findings (eValuator, QRN, DRG Validation, and Accuity), for relevant educational opportunities and report to the Coding Manager

Support all coding audit workflows

Support process improvement to ensure effective/efficient workflows

Identify front‑end activities that influence workflows

Promptness of task completion is essential to ensure timely movement through all audit levels to billing

Support the Quality Standards set by UTSW and the HIM Coding & CDI Department

Maintain an expert level of knowledge of Coding guidelines and practices

Other duties as assigned
