The Director, Accounting is a hands‑on senior‑leadership role responsible for the overall integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the company’s financial reporting and accounting operations. Reporting to the COO, this role provides financial leadership by overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budgets, banking, and tax compliance, ensuring adherence to GAAP and regulatory requirements. The Director partners with senior and executive leadership to deliver actionable financial insights, optimize accounting processes, and support strategic business decisions. Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership and Reporting

Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, billing, and general ledger management, establishing policies and internal controls to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. Lead and participate in the month‑end and year‑end close processes, reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals for accuracy, as well as driving efficiency and continuous improvement. Relationship lead with G2O’s tax and audit partner. Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Analyze and interpret financial results, providing variance analysis and proactive actionable insights and recommendations to executive leadership. Collaborate with HR and executive leadership to analyze benefit costs and develop cost‑sharing models. Monitors monthly claims expenses against funding to determine the need for additional accruals. Budgeting and Forecasting

Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with senior leadership to align budgets with company goals and initiatives. Oversee ongoing financial variance analysis, identifying trends and recommending adjustments to support financial goals. Provide financial modeling and scenario planning to guide decision‑making. Maintain budget templates and tools, manage revisions, and provide monthly financials, as needed. Monitor and report budget variances, distinguishing between timing differences and changes in plans. Partner with the COO to prepare quarterly budget revisions and financial forecasts. Compliance, Risk and Audit Management

Oversee all regulatory compliance, including federal, state, and local tax filings, payroll tax, sales/use tax, CAT tax, and corporate income tax, ensuring all returns and payments are submitted accurately and on time. Serve as primary liaison with external accounting firm. Review and/or prepare quarterly and annual supporting documentation to facilitate the preparation of annual tax returns and quarterly estimates. Oversee the calculation of state‑based sales and payroll expenses based on employee work locations, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Review and/or prepare local income tax returns not managed by external firms. Lead and manage the annual financial statement audit process, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors, overseeing preparation of schedules, and driving implementation of new accounting standards and recommendations. Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risk. Banking and Cash Management

Manage corporate banking relationships and security access for online banking and credit card systems. Oversee company credit card program, including ordering, termination, and integration with expense reporting systems. Conduct daily review of bank transactions, escalating any discrepancies or potentially fraudulent activity. Systems & Process Optimization

Serve as the business owner for G2O’s ERP system, Acumatica, ensuring effective use of financial systems, seamless integrations, and data integrity. Work with G2O’s Acumatica implementation partner to resolve any issues and identify customizations and enhancement requests. Work closely with the G2O IT department to ensure seamless integrations and data security measures. Partner with internal departments to identify opportunities to enhance reporting, automation, and analytics. Team Leadership and Development

Recruit, lead, mentor, and manage the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and continuous process improvement. Cultivate a positive and collaborative work culture that fosters creativity, innovation, and high performance. Set performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and support professional development. Build Relationships and Collaborate

Act as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, providing financial insights to support operational and strategic initiatives. Collaborate cross‑functionally to improve processes, enhance decision‑making, and contribute to organizational success. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience; CPA preferred. 7 – 10 years’ experience managing all aspects of an accounting department, including financial reporting, payroll, compliance and internal controls. Strong financial planning and analysis skills, with expertise in preparing and interpreting Balance Sheets, Income Statements, and Cash Flow Statements. Proven track record of leading, mentoring, and developing high‑performing accounting teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Experience in change management, particularly implementing new systems, processes, or accounting standards. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify risks, implement solutions, and support strategic business decisions. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey financial insights effectively to executive leadership. Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute plans that achieve departmental and organizational objectives. Advanced knowledge of accounting systems, ERP platforms, and financial reporting tools.
