Staff Accountant - Construction

Salary Range: $65k-$75k, depending on skills and qualifications of applicant
Position Summary The Staff Accountant will play a key role in supporting the accounting and financial operations of the company. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and assisting with compliance requirements specific to the construction industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction accounting principles, job costing, and project billing.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain the general ledger, reconcile accounts, and prepare journal entries.
Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
Prepare and analyze financial reports for senior management and operations.
Support accounts payable through invoice workflow processing.
Support accounts receivable, including customer billings and collections.
Monitor job cost reports and assist project managers in reviewing budget vs. actual results.
Process progress billings, retainage, change orders, and lien waivers.
Assist with payroll processing and certified payroll reporting.
Support annual audit and tax preparation activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
2 to 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
Solid knowledge of GAAP and construction accounting practices (job costing, WIP schedules, retainage, etc.).
Strong Excel and data analysis skills.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with key stakeholders, project managers, subcontractors, and other vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA or working toward CPA designation.
Experience with certified payroll and lien waivers.
Familiarity with AIA billing formats.
Working Conditions
This position is in office.
