Communications Advisor (Republican Caucus)
SUMMARY : This is an at‑will partisan position leading the personal communication efforts for a portfolio of Republican members. The Communications Advisor provides strategic counsel and media coaching, and drafts all media correspondence. The role requires close collaboration with media, legislators, staff, and the caucus communications department. In‑person attendance Monday‑Friday is required, with occasional remote work as directed. High confidentiality is essential.
Pay Range $55,000.00/yr – $70,000.00/yr (based on skills and experience)
Principal Accountabilities
Act as point of contact for media outlets interested in Republican members
Work with legislators’ office staff to handle all media interview inquiries and press conference attendance
Provide counsel to members on all public comments
Draft speeches, press releases, opinion editorials, and other public comments
Monitor news coverage and give strategic advice on shaping coverage
Assist with media coaching sessions
Handle constituent correspondence, internal messages, or personal communication as needed
Plan news conferences and other earned media opportunities
Design long‑term messaging plans and calendars for legislators
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience in AP‑style writing preferred
Three or more years of communications, legislative, or other relevant experience preferred
Strong research, writing, analysis, and oral presentation skills
Comfortable functioning in a high‑pressure fast‑paced environment
Experience working with diverse personalities and a multitude of issues
Ability to learn House rules, policies, and guidelines
Ability to learn legislative districts and state political processes
Familiarity with a demanding schedule and organizing large volumes of information preferred
