The Manager, Research & Development in Network Planning leads innovation efforts that shape Southwest Airlines’ flight schedule and network strategy. Responsibilities
Evaluate and establish best practices for Network Planning optimization applications.
Maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers to ensure research and design activities are informed and collaborative.
Lead the application of Network Planning tools used to build and edit capacity and schedules.
Inform operational planning organizations on future schedule assumptions as an input to the Annual Operating Plan and long‑term forecasts.
Monitor schedule performance and provide recommendations to improve business processes and tools.
Train and support all research and design team members, maintaining continuity with current scheduling techniques and requirements.
Build effective partnerships across Southwest Airlines, both commercial and operational sides.
May perform other duties as directed by employee leaders.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Demonstrated experience leading teams in quantitative or aviation planning roles.
Experience with schedule forecasting, optimization, simulation, and editing software and tools.
Ability to understand and apply information to contribute to the organization’s strategic plan.
Strong problem‑solving, communication, and leadership skills.
U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S. required. No work‑authorization sponsorship available.
