We are currently seeking a Sr. Engineer, Prototype Planning & Execution within the Powertrain Prototype builds team. The level will depend on the candidate’s experience. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can‑do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly, and to strive for perfection within a fast‑paced environment.

Role and Responsibilities

Define, own, and lead the execution of prototype build plans for Drive Units and Power Electronic components, acting as the primary interface between cross‑functional teams and internal customers.

Coordinate and align with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Program Management teams to ensure prototype build activities meet project milestones, technical requirements, and quality standards.

Manage the flow of prototype builds, including tracking component inventory, sub‑system readiness, and build progress in collaboration with production control specialists.

Drive resolution of blockers by proactively identifying risks, escalating issues, and implementing mitigation strategies to maintain schedule integrity.

Continuously report build status, risks, and key metrics to leadership and program stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment across all levels.

Oversee logistics and material readiness, including BOM validation, part kitting, and coordination with suppliers and internal teams to ensure timely availability of prototype components.

Support build events on‑site, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, build quality standards, and documentation of lessons learned.

Collaborate with lab and test teams to ensure seamless handoff of prototype hardware for validation and testing activities.

Champion continuous improvement in prototype build processes, documentation, and cross‑functional communication.

Work with environment, health, and safety team to maintain and improve safety of the lab.

Qualifications

Proven experience in project management within the automotive industry, with a focus on prototype builds, powertrain systems, or vehicle integration.

Strong understanding of prototype build processes, including assembly processes, BOM management, component readiness, and build sequencing.

Hands‑on experience with CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, NX, SolidWorks) to review product designs for manufacturability and to support the design of tools, fixtures, and prototype hardware.

Proficiency in project management and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Project, or 3DX.

Experience working with cross‑functional teams (engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, quality) to deliver complex hardware builds on aggressive timelines.

Demonstrated ability to track and manage inventory, coordinate logistics, and ensure material readiness for prototype builds.

Excellent technical communication and documentation skills, with the ability to clearly report status, risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.

3+ years of experience in prototype build planning and execution for drive unit, electric powertrain, or vehicle systems.

Familiarity with low‑volume manufacturing practices, prototype part handling, and build shop operations.

Understanding of automotive development cycles, including design, validation, and launch phases.

Education Requirements BS in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.

Salary Range (Annual) $140,000 – $192,500 USD
