We’re asking for an experienced professional to manage the company’s state and local governmental affairs strategy in the U.S. The successful candidate will work closely with Lenovo business units, site leaders, communications, federal government relations teams, and the legal department to identify and support company priorities among state and local governments, with strong emphasis on developing and nurturing relationships at the state and local levels.
The position will report to the Director, Government Relations, and will closely interact with business leaders, the finance team, Lenovo’s North America and global Legal team and may require some U.S. and international travel.
Responsibilities
Work together with the director, Government Relations NA, and the extended team to advance public policy topics for Lenovo in key states and communities across the U.S.
Develop and advance relationships with key external state and local stakeholders.
Independently identify, monitor, and analyze key issues and legislation at the state level, and develop state policy strategies and outreach plans where appropriate.
Maintain regular communication with business units to support internal stakeholder awareness and review of relevant state actions.
Together with the legal department, advise business units on policy and regulatory matters that may impact the development or deployment of products and services.
Regularly and actively engage with the state government affairs committees of Lenovo’s existing trade and industry associations, bringing that knowledge back to internal stakeholders to shape overall positioning and recommend action, where appropriate.
Actively participate in state and local opportunities to represent Lenovo and its interests, including with industry trade organizations/committees, elected officials, NGOs and others.
Closely align with Lenovo site leaders to create and execute local engagement plans, including representation and participation in the local community.
Identify appropriate lobbying support and/or consultants for key topics at the state level, aligned with Lenovo’s federal and global business priorities.
Support tax team and business units to secure and celebrate state and local incentives, including funding available for investment and workforce development.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop stakeholder dialogue opportunities focused on advancing Lenovo business objectives and reputation.
Required Qualifications
8+ years experience in developing and managing strategic relationships to advocate and influence public/technology policy priorities at the state level.
5+ years of experience working on technology policy space.
Experience in Government or diplomatic sector.
Bachelor’s degree in Public relations, communication, political sciences, public affairs, law, business, economics, marketing, journalism, business/commerce, history, geography, or similar.
Preferred Qualifications
In-depth knowledge of the North American technology market ideally in the areas of the laptop / IT hardware / mobile phones / cloud computing.
Keen understanding of the North American political system, environment and institutions, as well as cultural landscape particularly at the state in the U.S.
Solid network with the policy makers, the academia, and a working knowledge of the technology industry.
Experience with other government/policy schemes in the 50 U.S. States.
Interest in emerging technologies and policy work.
Outstanding judgment, persuasive and advocacy skills, creativity, and the ability to work in a dynamic environment.
Strong collaboration skills, drive for results, strategic thinking, and emotional intelligence.
Expertise in developing written materials and/or delivering content about policy issues.
Deep sense of commitment and drive to address complex challenges, individually and as part of a team.
Aptitude for learning, understanding, discussing, and representing industry and corporate policy positions for technologies and practices that are constantly changing.
Travel Requirements
20% expected travel.
The base salary budgeted range for this position is $150k-175k USD. Individuals may also be considered for bonus and/or commission.
