PROJECT ENGINEER – BRIDGE ENGINEER
Wallace Montgomery is seeking an experienced Bridge Engineer to join our Hunt Valley, Maryland team. This role involves developing bridge and structural plans for transportation projects in Maryland, focusing on MDOT and other local municipalities. Responsibilities include leading bridge safety inspections, supporting specialized analysis of overweight vehicle permits, and providing technical supervision while assisting project management objectives.
Essential Functions
Prepare and review structural design calculations, plans and estimates for bridge projects, including new designs, rehabilitations, and replacements.
Lead NBIS-compliant Bridge Safety Inspections.
Perform specialized analyses of overweight truck permits to ensure extremely heavy vehicles can safely cross bridges and travel designated routes throughout Maryland.
Conduct and review structural modeling and analysis using MicroStation, OpenBridge, Brass, LARS Bridge, MDX, and LEAP products.
Collaborate with roadway, drainage, geotechnical, traffic, and environmental staff to deliver integrated project solutions.
Support development of construction documents and specifications.
Serve as Project Team Leader by directing day‑to‑day activities of staff.
Assist in coordination of subconsultant activities.
Monitor project schedules and budgets and directly work with clients.
Mentor junior engineers and provide quality control/assurance efforts.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maryland required.
7–10 years of relevant bridge design and/or inspection experience.
Experience with MDOT bridge design guidelines, inspection procedures, and permit review processes strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Training or certifications in bridge inspection:
NHI-130055 or NHI-130056 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges)
NHI-130078 (Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges)
NHI-130087 (Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures)
