Position Description
We are looking for a Transportation Civil Engineering Specialist to join our highly skilled Civil/Highway Design Team in Chicago. The ideal candidate should have some previous experience in transportation engineering and a strong interest in transportation design projects. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with various agencies, such as Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), Illinois Tollway, and various other DOTs, counties, and cities, throughout Illinois and the country. As a Transportation Civil Engineering Specialist, you will focus on the design and production of planning, engineering, and construction bid documents. You will have the opportunity to work under the direction of experienced engineers and learn various civil design fundamentals including drainage, geometrics, traffic, utilities, and modeling.
Responsibilities
Use Microstation, GeoPak, and OpenRoads to design roadway improvement plans, including plan and profile, drainage, geometrics, utilities, maintenance of traffic, and other associated design elements.
Participate in a variety of planning (Phase I) and design (Phase II) projects, while providing support for construction (Phase III) projects.
Develop construction documents, including technical drawings/plans and specifications.
Participate in meetings with clients and stakeholders and develop content for these meetings.
Participate in internal team meetings to discuss projects, technical designs, and upcoming deliverables.
Assist in developing technical design reports, calculations, and memos.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
An engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred but not required.
A basic understanding of civil transportation engineering fundamentals.
Familiarity with civil design drafting software.
A strong desire to work with and help clients, public stakeholders, and fellow team members.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
A desire to work on large multidisciplinary transportation projects with fast-paced schedules, which require creative thinking and innovative problem-solving skills.
Other Positive Attributes
Experience using Microstation, GeoPak, OpenRoads, and/or AutoCAD Civil3D.
Previous experience with transportation roadway improvement design projects.
Desire to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Compensation Range USD 64,848.58 – 86,464.77 per year.
