Koniag IT Systems LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Cloud Architect to support KITS and our government customer in Washington, DC. This is a hybrid opportunity, requires 3 days onsite and 2 days remote. This position is for a Future New Business Opportunity. We are looking for a highly qualified, experienced and self‑motivated individual to perform the duties of a Cloud Architect (MS Azure) to support a federal client in Washington, DC.
The ideal Cloud Architect will lead our cloud strategy and implementation initiatives. This role will be responsible for designing and implementing secure, scalable cloud solutions while ensuring alignment with organizational goals and requirements.
Primary responsibilities include:
Design and implement cloud architectures leveraging Microsoft Azure
Develop cloud migration strategies and roadmaps
Lead cloud transformation projects and initiatives
Design hybrid cloud solutions integrating on‑premises infrastructure with cloud services
Implement secure cloud environments meeting compliance requirements
Establish cloud governance frameworks and policies
Optimize cloud resource utilization and costs
Design cloud‑based disaster recovery and business continuity solutions
Develop infrastructure as code (IaC) templates for automated deployments
Implement identity and access management solutions for cloud environments
Architect secure networking solutions for cloud connectivity
Evaluate and recommend cloud services and technologies
Provide technical leadership and guidance to IT teams on cloud best practices
Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure secure cloud implementations
Create architectural documentation and diagrams
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
8+ years' experience in IT infrastructure or systems engineering
5+ years' experience designing and implementing cloud solutions
3+ years' experience with Microsoft Azure.
AWS experience will be considered
Experience with cloud migration and hybrid cloud architectures
Required Skills and Competencies:
Expert knowledge of cloud service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and deployment models
Strong understanding of Microsoft Azure and/or AWS services and architectures
Experience with infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, ARM templates, CloudFormation)
Knowledge of cloud security best practices and compliance frameworks
Understanding of network design for cloud environments
Experience with identity and access management in cloud environments
Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Cloud certification (Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Solutions Architect, or equivalent)
Base‑level security certification (Security+, CISSP, or equivalent)
Desired Skills and Competencies:
Experience in government IT environments
Multiple cloud platform certifications
Knowledge of FedRAMP compliance requirements
Experience with cloud cost optimization techniques
Background in enterprise architecture frameworks
Understanding of data protection and privacy regulations
Experience with cloud automation and orchestration tools
Knowledge of serverless architectures and technologies
