Overview Miami University seeks a strategic and innovative provost and executive vice president for academic affairs to lead the university’s efforts to transform and reinvigorate the institution, strengthen its teaching, research, and service missions, and reimagine itself to serve the dynamic needs and interests of students now and in the future. The provost will serve as a vital member of the president’s executive cabinet, partnering with faculty, staff, and other university leaders to advance and sustain the academic enterprise through cutting‑edge research and practice and community engagement.

Responsibilities

Provide oversight of a breadth of academic disciplines, centers, institutes, programs, committees, and councils.

Lead and advocate for approximately 1,000 full‑time instructional faculty, a staff of nearly 500, and oversee a budget of approximately $300 M.

Collaborate with the president and senior executives in strategic planning, institutional assessment, and resource allocation.

Promote the university’s teaching, research, and service missions through faculty development, curriculum enhancement, and scholarship initiatives.

Represent the university in external affairs, including community engagement, funding partners, and higher‑education policy forums.

Qualifications

Earned terminal degree in education, higher‑education administration, or a related field; outstanding record in education and research commensurate with appointment to the rank of full professor with tenure.

Minimum of ten years of leadership experience with a career progression that has prepared the candidate for a position of this scope, complexity, and scale.

Proven strategic, financial, and operational leadership in a higher‑education context.

Demonstrated ability to engage faculty, staff, students, and external partners in a collaborative, mission‑driven environment.

Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
